John Shirley hat sich schon mit "The Crow" und "Doom" an verschiedene Szenenikonen gewagt - und nun trifft es den 1939 von Bob Kane geschaffenen Batman. Die Geschichte spielt kurz nach den Ereignissen im letzten Spielfilm und sowohl BAtman, wie auch seine Umgebung, versuchen sich an BRuce Waynes neue Lebensaufgabe zu gewöhnen.

Die Probleme legaler und verwaltungstechnischer Art, die eine Figur wie Batman für die Strafverfolung mit sich bringen werden hier in Ansätzen bereits demonstriert und die Gedanken zu Bruce Waynes Motiven, so rumzurennen lassen nochg ausreichend raum für eigene Interpretationen der Figur - oder für Fortsetzungen des Romans. Das Thema der White Supremacists hatte bisher bei DC und speziel bei Batman eher eine periphäre Rolle gespielt, ist hier allerdings gut umgesetz, wenn auch ein paar Übertreibungen auftauchen und White Eyes nicht wirklich überuegende motiveirt erscheint. Sonst aber ein gut lesbares Buch, das eine spannende und interessante Geschichte erzählt.
